About the Author

Dan Kellams, who was born and raised in Iowa, is a freelance writer and editorial consultant in New York City. He has often written about sports in his long career. For nearly two decades he analyzed and edited nationally recognized reports on sports participation trends in America. A Coach’s Life fulfills Dan’s long-held ambition to explore the Hipple legend and the coach’s impact on so many lives.

Dan is a 1954 graduate of Marion High School, where he played four sports (football, basketball, track, and baseball) under Coach Les Hipple. He graduated from Cornell College in Iowa, where he was active in journalism, theater, and sports. He was awarded a fellowship to Columbia University and earned a master’s degree from its Graduate School of Journalism.  In his adult career, he has created many award-winning annual reports, corporate newsletters, and communications programs.

Dan and his wife, Elaine, have homes in Manhattan and Litchfield County, Connecticut.
